Meta Shuts Down 'Claudeonomics' After Employees Burn 60 Trillion AI Tokens Competing for Leaderboard Glory
A Meta employee built an internal dashboard called 'Claudeonomics' that ranked the company's 85,000+ employees by AI token consumption, awarding titles like 'Token Legend' and 'Cache Wizard' to the top 250 users. In just 30 days, total usage exceeded 60 trillion tokens at an estimated cost of $9 billion, with the top user consuming 281 billion tokens. The dashboard was shuttered on April 9 after data was leaked externally, with the creator taking it down voluntarily. The most revealing detail: neither CEO Mark Zuckerberg nor CTO Andrew Bosworth ranked in the top 250, raising questions about whether the people steering Meta's AI-first strategy are actually using the tools themselves.
