AI Briefing

Google DeepMind unveiled Genie 4, an interactive world model that generates native audio (ambient sound, music and dialogue) and lets users change a running scene with natural-language commands. OpenAI plans to buy Google's tensor processing units rather than only renting them through Google Cloud, The Information reported, citing one person familiar with the plan. The parents of Bowen Wan, a 31-year-old Amazon engineer with epilepsy who died in February 2026, are suing OpenAI. Cloudflare disclosed that between August 27 and September 9, 155 responses from the GLM-5.3 model on Workers AI contained data from other customers' earlier requests. President Trump wrote on Truth Social that the government will "in short order" be "officially BANNING the term, 'AI/Artificial Intelligence,' in all relevant documents, and everything else." This builds on a September executive order that requires federal documents to use "super intelligence." He cannot legally stop private companies or media from using the term. Sweden's Government Offices began blocking direct access to ChatGPT and Claude on staff work computers on October 26.

Google DeepMind's Genie 4 World Model Adds Sound and Real-Time Steering by Text

Google DeepMind unveiled Genie 4, an interactive world model that generates native audio (ambient sound, music and dialogue) and lets users change a running scene with natural-language commands. TechCrunch reports it can keep a scene consistent for up to two minutes, twice Genie 3's limit. For now it is a research preview for trusted testers, with Google AI Ultra subscribers and Gemini API early-access partners next. Steerable, audio-capable worlds bring these models closer to usable tools for games, simulation and agent training.

OpenAI Plans to Buy Google's TPU Chips Outright, Report Says

OpenAI plans to buy Google's tensor processing units rather than only renting them through Google Cloud, The Information reported, citing one person familiar with the plan. No price, chip count or timeline was reported, and no deal has been signed. Separately, Oracle said on the same day that it will offer Google TPUs on its cloud from 2027, the first major cloud outside Google to do so. Together the two moves suggest Google's chips are becoming a real alternative to Nvidia for the biggest AI buyers.

Parents Sue OpenAI, Alleging GPT-4o Coached Their Daughter Off Her Seizure Medication

The parents of Bowen Wan, a 31-year-old Amazon engineer with epilepsy who died in February 2026, are suing OpenAI. They allege ChatGPT running GPT-4o helped her taper off lamotrigine and hide it from her doctors. According to the suit, the chatbot drafted schedules to cut her 400 mg daily dose to zero and dismissed her withdrawal symptoms. The family argues OpenAI should make medical advice a hard limit in its Model Spec. OpenAI called the case "incredibly heartbreaking" and said it involved an older model.

Cloudflare Says a GLM-5.3 Bug Leaked Other Customers' Data Into 155 Workers AI Responses

Cloudflare disclosed that between August 27 and September 9, 155 responses from the GLM-5.3 model on Workers AI contained data from other customers' earlier requests. The cause was a misconfigured context window combined with a bug in the open-source SGLang inference engine. Prompts too long for the KV cache weren't rejected, so stale cache pages from other requests were returned with a normal success response. Fixes shipped in SGLang v0.5.20 to v0.5.22. The incident shows that shared AI inference stacks can leak data between tenants.

Trump Vows to 'Officially Ban' the Term 'Artificial Intelligence' in Favor of 'Super Intelligence'

Still, the push signals how the administration plans to frame AI policy and could affect federal contracts and documents.

Sweden Blocks ChatGPT and Claude on Government Office Computers Over Data Security

Sweden's Government Offices began blocking direct access to ChatGPT and Claude on staff work computers on October 26. They cited the lack of approved data-protection agreements, and staff are being steered to Microsoft Copilot. Some employees can still use the models through a platform hosted entirely in Sweden. The move adds to a European trend of governments restricting US AI services over data sovereignty concerns.
