AI Briefing

Google DeepMind said its AI models, working under human cryptanalysts, found two new attacks on legacy 1024-bit RSA within a few weeks. Elvis Presley Enterprises and Eminem's publisher Eight Mile Style filed separate federal lawsuits against AI music generator Suno on November 6. Several hundred activists occupied Microsoft's data center construction site in Amsterdam's Sloterdijk district on November 6, and Dutch police detained 150 to 200 people on suspicion of trespassing. Ramp's AI Index shows business spending on AI model usage grew only 1.5% across August and September combined, after rising 42% month over month in July.

Google DeepMind Says AI Agents Found Two New Weaknesses in Legacy 1024-Bit RSA

Google DeepMind said its AI models, working under human cryptanalysts, found two new attacks on legacy 1024-bit RSA within a few weeks. One makes forging signatures about 1,600 times more efficient than the best known attack, a theoretical estimate for cases where the attacker controls only a small part of the signed data. The other cuts the cost of factoring each additional key in a large batch by about 30 times. DeepMind says RSA-2048 and larger keys are not affected, but 1024-bit keys still survive in embedded devices and old certificate chains, and the work shows AI shortening research that used to take cryptographers years.

Elvis Presley's Rights Holders and Eminem's Publisher File Federal Lawsuits Against Suno

Elvis Presley Enterprises and Eminem's publisher Eight Mile Style filed separate federal lawsuits against AI music generator Suno on November 6. The Presley suit cites Tennessee's ELVIS Act, the 2024 law against unauthorized AI voice cloning, and also alleges Suno trained on protected recordings. Eight Mile Style, which controls 269 Eminem compositions, seeks more than $41 million. Suno says it bars prompts naming specific artists. The cases are an early test of state voice-likeness laws against AI music tools, on top of existing suits from Universal, Sony and independent musicians.

Police Detain 150–200 After Activists Occupy Microsoft's Amsterdam Data Center Site in Europe-Wide Protest

Several hundred activists occupied Microsoft's data center construction site in Amsterdam's Sloterdijk district on November 6, and Dutch police detained 150 to 200 people on suspicion of trespassing. The occupation was part of a two-day "Stop Dirty Data Centres" campaign with events planned in 15 European countries, objecting to data centers' energy and water use and to limited public consultation. Coming days after US voters rejected data centers in local ballot measures, it shows the backlash against AI infrastructure spreading to Europe.

Ramp Data Shows Business AI Spending Growth Nearly Stalled in Late Summer

Ramp's AI Index shows business spending on AI model usage grew only 1.5% across August and September combined, after rising 42% month over month in July. It picked back up to 8.9% growth from September 23 to October 23. The heaviest-spending top 1% of firms, which peaked at about $10,000 per employee per month, cut back slightly. The figures suggest price cuts and cost controls are slowing revenue growth just as Anthropic prepares to go public.
